Beer Pilgrims

For those who believe in something or Someone it is normal, at a moment of their lives, to leave to discover the places where the presence of this thing or Person is strong and clear.

A pilgrimage.

We, as three friends, as three young brewers, decided that Belgium was the perfect place to visit.
And that we were going to see all the Seven Trappist Abbeys.

Day I - Wednesday - Easy Going

Easy departure at 3.30 am from Siena, to Pisa. Plane at 6.30 am to Eindhoven.
Landing at 9.00 am in Eindhoven. Snowdrifts. Good start.
We head to the car-rental to take the car we paid in advance, but the kind clerk shows us the difference between a debt card and a credit card, and without this last one we were not allowed to take the car. Going better and better.

We decide to take a bus to the center of Eindhoven, leave the bags in the hotel and head for the central station, looking for a transportation to our first destination: Koningshoeven Abbey, where La Trappe is made.
Train to Tilburg and a bus to Berkel Enschot.
La Trappe Isid'or

We made it, after more than twelve hours from our departure we finally reach our first goal.

We tried almost every beer they make, together with some cheese and bread they produce in the abbey. Glutton Fast ordered also a trappist dessert, with a Quadrupel dressing.

Honorable mention for La Trappe Isid'or, very good amber and La Trappe Bockbier, the only trappist bock beer, deep red and very malty.

La Trappe Bockbier
To be honest we liked all the beer we tasted, they are very good and unique beers, the only regret is not trying La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged, an oak aged version of La Trappe Quadrupel, because it was very expensive.

Back to Eindhoven and evening beer in Bierprofessor, in the desolated Wednesday night of the city.
